Pickleball and Racquet Club Daily Operations Checklist

MTT TeamOctober 4, 20263 min read

Pickleball has been one of the fastest-growing sports in the US for several years running, according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association's participation research, and dedicated indoor facilities have opened in warehouses, malls and former big-box stores. Many tennis and racquet clubs have added pickleball courts alongside their existing ones.

Busy courts are good business. They also mean back-to-back bookings, leagues, lessons, ball-machine rentals and a lot of foot traffic. A daily checklist keeps the courts playable and the bookings running on time.

Opening

  • Turn on lights and HVAC; check every court light works
  • Walk every court for debris, spills, loose tape and damaged lines
  • Check nets: height, tension and straps
  • Dry mop or blow indoor courts; check outdoor courts for water and leaves
  • Check the booking system and the day's schedule of open play, leagues and lessons
  • Confirm instructors and league coordinators are scheduled

Equipment

  • Check rental paddles for cracks and worn grips
  • Count rental balls and replace cracked or soft ones
  • Check ball machines are charged and working
  • Stock water, towels and first-aid supplies at court-side stations

Front Desk and Bookings

  • Confirm today's reservations and send reminders if your system does not
  • Prepare check-in for leagues and clinics
  • Handle waitlists for open play
  • Check memberships, guest passes and waivers are up to date
  • Know the rules for no-shows and late cancellations, and apply them consistently

Safety

Pickleball attracts a wide age range, including many older players, and quick lateral movements cause falls and strains. Courts should be clean and dry, and staff should know where the first-aid kit and AED are.

  • Confirm the AED is present, charged and its pads are in date
  • Check first-aid kits are stocked
  • Make sure at least one person on each shift knows the emergency procedure
  • Keep walkways between courts clear of bags and equipment
  • Post court etiquette and safety rules where players can see them

The American Heart Association recommends that facilities with AEDs train staff in CPR and AED use; many club insurers expect it too.

Mid-Day Turnover

  • Walk courts between booking blocks and pick up stray balls and rubbish
  • Wipe down benches and court-side furniture
  • Restock water and towels
  • Check restrooms and locker rooms

Noise and Neighbours

Outdoor pickleball noise has led to complaints and restrictions in some communities. If you are near homes, enforce posted hours and consider quieter paddles and balls for early or late sessions.

Closing

  • Walk every court and collect balls, paddles and lost property
  • Clean and dry court surfaces as needed
  • Return rental equipment and charge ball machines
  • Turn off lights and HVAC, check doors and windows
  • Log any maintenance issues for the morning team
  • Close out the register and booking system

How MyTeamTasks Helps

Court walks, equipment checks and AED checks are easy to skip on a busy day and important when something goes wrong. In MyTeamTasks, each one can be a timestamped task with photos for court condition and text notes for issues. Managers see which courts were checked and when, and maintenance problems are logged where the next shift will see them.
