Fitness Studio Opening and Closing Checklist

Fitness studios run on member experience. A broken piece of equipment, a locker room that was not cleaned properly, or a front desk that was not set up for the day's classes all chip away at the experience that keeps members paying month after month.
Opening Checklist
Front Desk and Reception
- Power on all computers and check the class schedule software
- Verify today's class schedule is accurate and any substitutions are noted
- Restock desk supplies (waivers, pens, retail items)
- Turn on music and adjust to appropriate volume
Equipment Floor
- Inspect all cardio machines for error messages or damage
- Wipe down all machine surfaces, handles, and seats
- Check free weights are organized and all sets are complete
- Inspect cables and pulleys on cable machines for fraying or damage
- Confirm water fountain is working
Group Fitness Room
- Check that mats, blocks, and props are clean and stored properly
- Test any class-specific equipment (speakers, projector, lighting controls)
- Confirm the room is clean from the previous evening's classes
Locker Rooms
- Clean and sanitize all surfaces
- Restock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Check that showers and drains are clear
- Report any maintenance issues
Closing Checklist
- Wipe down all equipment after final class or open gym period
- Reorganize free weights and return all equipment to storage
- Sanitize locker rooms and reset for morning
- Turn off all lights and HVAC except essential overnight settings
- Lock all exterior doors and set the alarm
- Complete maintenance log for any equipment issues noted during the day
