Parking Garage and Lot Daily Operations Checklist

MTT TeamOctober 6, 20262 min read

A parking garage or lot looks simple: people drive in, park and leave. In practice, it depends on lighting, payment machines, barriers, signage, cleaning and security working all day and night, often with only one or two staff on site. Small failures, a dark stairwell, a jammed barrier, an icy ramp, cause big problems. A daily checklist catches them early.

Opening or Shift Start

  • Walk every level, or the full lot, at the start of each shift
  • Check all lighting, especially stairwells, ramps and pedestrian routes
  • Test entry and exit barriers and ticket machines
  • Check pay stations and card readers, and restock receipt paper
  • Check intercoms and help points connect to someone
  • Check CCTV cameras are recording and views are clear
  • Read the handover notes from the previous shift

Safety and Security

  • Check for spills, oil, broken glass and debris on driving lanes
  • Check stairwells and lifts are clean and working
  • Report abandoned or suspicious vehicles following your procedure
  • Check emergency exits and fire equipment are clear and in place
  • Note any damaged barriers, kerbs or signage

Cleaning

  • Empty bins and clear litter
  • Clean lifts, stairwells and pay station areas
  • Treat oil stains as scheduled

Winter Readiness

  • Check grit or de-icer stock
  • Grit ramps, entrances and pedestrian routes before frost
  • Clear snow from the top deck or open lot following your plan
  • Check drainage is clear to avoid ice sheets

Customer Issues

  • Log every customer complaint, payment problem or damage claim
  • Know how to raise barriers manually in an emergency
  • Keep a record of tickets issued manually or refunded

End of Shift

  • Walk the facility again and note anything new
  • Reconcile payments and cash where applicable
  • Write a short handover note for the next shift

Good handovers matter in a 24-hour operation; see how to write shift notes the next shift can use. For security staff on site, the security guard shift checklist complements this one.

How MyTeamTasks Helps

With few staff covering long hours, a missed check is easy to overlook. In MyTeamTasks, walk-throughs and equipment checks are checklists for each shift, damaged equipment can be logged as a photo task, and the operator can see across sites whether every level was walked and every barrier tested.
