Massage Therapy Clinic Daily Checklist
A massage therapy clinic sells calm. Clients notice clean linens, a warm room, a therapist who remembers their sore shoulder, and an appointment that starts on time. They also notice the opposite. Behind the calm is a routine: rooms turned over properly between every client, intake forms reviewed, linens laundered and records kept private.
Opening
- Turn on heating and lighting; set treatment rooms to a comfortable temperature
- Check the day's schedule and which therapist is in which room
- Review client notes for returning clients: preferences, health changes, areas to avoid
- Stock clean linens, oils, lotions and hand sanitiser in each room
- Check table heaters and adjustable tables work
- Tidy the reception and waiting area
Client Intake
- Ask new clients to complete an intake and health history form
- Ask returning clients about changes in health or medications
- Discuss goals, pressure preferences and areas to avoid
- Obtain informed consent according to your professional and local requirements
- Explain draping and that the client can stop or adjust at any time
Contraindications matter. If a client has a condition that may make massage inappropriate, the therapist should follow their training and refer to a medical professional where needed.
Room Turnover Between Clients
- Remove used linens and place them in a closed laundry bin
- Clean and disinfect the table, face cradle and headrest
- Wipe high-touch surfaces: door handles, light switches, hooks, chairs
- Replace with fresh linens
- Wash hands thoroughly
- Reset lighting, music and temperature
Hygiene and Laundry
- Wash linens at the temperature recommended for the fabric and your local guidance
- Store clean linens covered and separate from used ones
- Use single-use or properly cleaned face cradle covers
- Keep oils and lotions in pump bottles to avoid contamination
Records and Privacy
Intake forms contain health information. Store them securely, limit who can see them, and follow the privacy rules that apply in your jurisdiction. Never leave forms on the reception desk.
Safety and Professional Boundaries
- Keep the client's dignity and comfort central at every step
- Have a clear policy for handling inappropriate client behaviour
- Make sure therapists can end a session if they feel unsafe
- Know the emergency procedure and where the first-aid kit is
Professional bodies such as the American Massage Therapy Association publish codes of ethics that cover boundaries and consent.
Closing
- Complete client notes for every session
- Clean and disinfect all rooms
- Start laundry and restock linens
- Confirm tomorrow's appointments and send reminders
- Reconcile payments
- Turn off heaters and equipment
