Barbershop Daily Cleaning Checklist
A barbershop has a specific kind of look. Clean mirrors, polished chairs, sharp tools, hair off the floor. When that look slips, clients notice immediately. They are staring at the mirror for 30 minutes. They see everything.
Opening the Shop
The first 30 minutes is about presentation and tool prep.
- Unlock and turn on lights and the sound system
- Sweep and mop the entire floor
- Wipe down every mirror
- Wipe down every chair, headrest, and footrest
- Disinfect counters and tool stations
- Lay out fresh towels at every station
- Check the appointment book and prep for the morning's clients
- Confirm all clippers, trimmers, and shears are clean and charged
Between Every Client
This is where most shops lose ground. A rushed turnover means a client sits down in a chair with someone else's hair on the cape.
Sweep up immediately. Hair on the floor is one thing. Hair drifting onto the next client is another.
Replace the cape and neck strip. Capes should be fresh per client unless your shop uses a strict cape rotation.
Wipe down the chair. Headrest, armrests, footrest, base.
Disinfect all tools used. Clippers and trimmers get brushed and sprayed. Combs go in barbicide.
Reset the station. Tools laid out, station wiped, mirror checked for clarity.
Tool Care
Tools are the barber's instrument. A dull blade or a clogged clipper changes the haircut.
- Oil and brush clippers between every client
- Disinfect combs and brushes throughout the day
- Sharpen shears on the shop's schedule
- Replace clipper blades before they fail, not after
- Inspect cords and motors weekly for wear
Front of House
The waiting area and counter set the tone. Clients are forming an opinion before they sit in the chair.
- Wipe down the front counter and POS
- Restock the magazine rack or refresh whatever sits in the waiting area
- Empty trash continuously, especially near the chairs
- Refresh coffee, water, or any complimentary offerings
- Wipe down the front door and door handles
Closing the Shop
Closing is where shortcuts happen. A tired barber wants to go home. The shortcuts are how tomorrow's first client gets a worse experience.
- Sweep and mop the entire floor
- Deep wipe every chair and station
- Disinfect every tool and let air-dry overnight
- Empty all trash, including hair clipping bags
- Wash and prepare towels for tomorrow
- Wipe mirrors and counters one final time
- Lock the door and set the alarm
The Vibe is the Service
A barbershop is selling a haircut and an experience. The experience is the music, the smell, the cleanliness, the conversation. Get any of those wrong and the haircut alone is not enough to bring the client back.
How MyTeamTasks Helps
A digital cleaning checklist on a tablet at the front of the shop means every barber checks off their turnover between clients. The owner can pull up the day and see who is following the routine and where the gaps are. The shop stays consistent regardless of who is working, and the next client always sits down in a chair that looks like it was prepared for them, because it was.
