Family Entertainment Center Daily Checklist

MTT TeamJune 26, 20266 min read

A family entertainment center is four businesses sharing a roof. There is an amusement operation with machines that break. There is a food service operation with health code obligations. There is an events business selling birthday parties booked weeks in advance. And there is a retail redemption counter where the prize wall is either full or the whole model stops working.

Any one of these failing ruins the visit. A parent who paid for a party does not distinguish between "the pizza was late" and "the ticket machine jammed." They just had a bad afternoon.

Opening

  • Unlock, disarm the alarm, and confirm no overnight events
  • Turn on lighting, HVAC, and music at the correct levels
  • Power up all games and attractions
  • Confirm the point of sale and card system are online
  • Confirm the party booking system shows today's schedule
  • Confirm staffing against the day's bookings and expected traffic
  • Walk the entire facility for cleanliness and damage
  • Confirm all emergency exits are clear and functional
  • Confirm the first aid kit and AED are present and in date

Game Floor

  • Power on and test every game
  • Confirm each game accepts payment and reads cards correctly
  • Confirm ticket dispensers are loaded and dispensing
  • Confirm no game displays an error state
  • Clear any coin or card jams
  • Confirm joysticks, buttons, and controls are functional
  • Clean all screens, controls, and cabinet surfaces
  • Confirm no exposed wiring or damaged cabinet edges
  • Tag out and physically block any game that fails
  • Log every out-of-service game with the reason

A game that takes money and does not play is worse than a game that is turned off. Tag it out immediately and log it, because the refund conversation at the counter costs more than the game earns.

Redemption Counter

  • Confirm the prize wall is fully stocked and faced
  • Confirm every prize has a ticket value displayed
  • Confirm the ticket counter or card reader works
  • Confirm high-value prizes are secured
  • Restock from the prize inventory
  • Note any prize that is out of stock and adjust the display
  • Confirm the counter is clean and organized

An empty section on the prize wall is the most visible sign of a poorly run FEC. Consolidate and re-face rather than leaving gaps.

Attractions

  • Inspect each attraction per the manufacturer's daily procedure
  • Confirm restraints, harnesses, and safety equipment function
  • Confirm height and age requirement signage is posted and legible
  • Confirm the ride operator is trained and briefed
  • Test the emergency stop on every powered attraction
  • Confirm laser tag vests and equipment are charged and functional
  • Confirm bowling lanes, pinsetters, and ball returns operate
  • Confirm bumper cars, karts, and track safety systems function
  • Inspect soft play areas for tears, exposed structure, and cleanliness

The emergency stop is tested on every powered attraction every day. It is the one control that has to work the one time it is needed.

Food Service

  • Record and log all cooler and freezer temperatures
  • Confirm no product is out of date
  • Confirm hand-wash stations are stocked
  • Confirm sanitizer buckets are made and tested
  • Confirm all food contact surfaces are cleaned and sanitized
  • Confirm equipment reaches temperature: ovens, fryers, warmers
  • Log hot holding temperatures
  • Confirm the prep for expected volume including party bookings
  • Confirm allergen information is available
  • Confirm the beverage system is functional and lines are clean

Party Rooms

  • Confirm each room matches its booking schedule
  • Clean and sanitize all tables, chairs, and surfaces
  • Confirm decorations and setup match the booked package
  • Confirm the party host is assigned and briefed on the family's name
  • Confirm the food order and timing for each party
  • Confirm any cake or special request is accounted for
  • Confirm game cards or wristbands are prepared per the package
  • Confirm the room is reset between parties within the scheduled gap

The party host knowing the birthday child's name before the family arrives is the smallest possible effort with the largest possible effect on a review.

Restrooms

  • Clean and restock at open
  • Check and restock every two hours minimum
  • Confirm changing tables are clean and functional
  • Confirm hand dryers or towel dispensers work
  • Confirm no fixture is leaking or out of order
  • Log every check

Restroom condition is the proxy parents use to judge kitchen cleanliness. They are not wrong to do so.

Throughout the Day

  • Walk the game floor every hour and clear jams
  • Restock the prize wall as it depletes
  • Bus tables and clear the food area continuously
  • Empty trash before it overflows
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces on a schedule
  • Monitor capacity in soft play and attraction areas
  • Address any unattended child per policy
  • Watch for and correct rough play

Closing

  • Confirm all guests have exited
  • Power down games and attractions per procedure
  • Empty and reconcile all cash from machines
  • Reconcile the point of sale and redemption counter
  • Restock the prize wall for the morning
  • Complete the food service closing clean and temperature log
  • Clean and reset all party rooms
  • Vacuum and mop the entire facility
  • Empty all trash and clean the trash area
  • Confirm all doors are secured and set the alarm
  • Log all out-of-service equipment for the maintenance schedule

Weekly and Monthly

  • Perform manufacturer-scheduled maintenance on every attraction
  • Test and clean ticket dispensers and bill acceptors
  • Audit game revenue against expected performance
  • Rotate or replace underperforming games
  • Deep clean soft play structures including interior surfaces
  • Inventory and reorder prizes based on redemption rates
  • Confirm fire suppression, extinguishers, and emergency lighting
  • Review all incident reports for patterns
  • Confirm staff food safety and first aid certifications

Per-game revenue is the number that decides the floor layout. A machine earning half the floor average is occupying space a better machine could use.

How MyTeamTasks Helps

A general manager cannot personally test eighty games, check restrooms hourly, and confirm every party room was reset between bookings. A shared task system assigns the opening game floor test, the hourly restroom checks, and the party room resets to specific staff with timestamps and photo confirmation. Out-of-service games are logged the moment they fail rather than discovered by a customer, and the manager can see which checks were skipped on the busiest afternoon of the week.
