Childcare Center Daily Safety Checklist for Staff
Parents trust you with the most important people in their lives. That trust is built on consistency. One staff member having an off day should never translate to a safety gap. A daily safety checklist makes consistency structural, not personal.
Morning Opening Checks
- Verify all outdoor gate latches are secure
- Check play equipment for loose parts, splinters, or damage
- Confirm nap area mats and cots are clean and sanitized
- Check classroom toy bins for choking hazards or broken items
- Verify all cleaning products and medications are locked away
- Confirm headcount procedures are posted and visible to all staff
During the Day
- Conduct ratio checks every 30 minutes to ensure adult-to-child ratios are maintained
- Document diaper changes and feeding times as required
- Log any incidents (bumps, falls, bites) immediately
- Confirm all visitors sign in and out with ID
End of Day
- Conduct full sweep of all rooms before final lockup
- Sanitize all surfaces, toys, and mats
- Check that all medication logs are up to date
- Ensure no child is left behind (formal end-of-day headcount)
- Lock all exterior doors and arm the alarm
Regulatory Compliance
Many licensing bodies require documented daily safety checks. A paper log that is filled in all at once is not a real record. Digital completion with timestamps gives your center a credible, auditable record if a licensing review happens.
Using MyTeamTasks in Childcare
