Car Wash and Auto Detailing Daily Operations Checklist

MTT TeamSeptember 15, 20252 min read

A car wash business lives on volume and reputation. When machines break down mid-shift, chemicals run out, or vacuums are not cleaned between customers, you lose both. A daily checklist is how you stay ahead of operational breakdowns before they affect the customer.

Morning Equipment Checks

  • Test all automatic wash functions and confirm no fault codes are showing
  • Check foam and wax chemical levels, refill as needed
  • Inspect belt conveyor for debris or misalignment
  • Test vacuum units and check filters
  • Verify air compressors are charged and functional
  • Test the reclaim water system if applicable

Site Readiness

  • Sweep and blow out all bays and detail areas
  • Wipe down all surfaces customers will touch (door handles, screens, pay stations)
  • Confirm signage and menu boards are clean and visible
  • Check lighting in tunnels and bays
  • Refill paper towel and microfiber cloth supply in detail area

Detail Bay Checklist

  • Restock all products (interior cleaner, glass cleaner, tire shine, etc.)
  • Confirm detail tools are clean and organized
  • Check steam cleaner and extractor are in working order
  • Review upcoming appointment schedule

Closing Checklist

  • Flush and clean all chemical injection systems
  • Rinse out all bays and vacuum hoses
  • Perform end-of-day equipment inspection and log any issues
  • Secure all chemical storage areas
  • Empty all trash bins in the customer waiting area

Why Checklists Pay Off in Car Wash Operations

One equipment failure that could have been caught in the morning inspection can cost you an entire afternoon of revenue. Daily prevention beats expensive reactive repairs every time.
